The Season of Lent
“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” We hear these words as an ashen cross is traced on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of Lent.
Lent is the time of the church year when we reflect on the great love God has demonstrated for us over and over again, and most particularly in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Despite the fact we continually do the things we don’t want to do and don’t do the things we do want to do (to paraphrase St. Paul), God hasn’t given up on us! Over the 40 days of this season, we are called to consider the ways we have fallen short, and to express gratitude for God’s love and forgiveness.
