About Pastor Sara Schultz

Pastor Sara Schultz was called to Hope in February 2023. Born and raised in the East Bay, she is delighted to be doing ministry here!

Pastor Sara graduated with her MDiv from Union Theological Seminary in New York in 2014 and completed a year of Lutheran studies at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) in 2016. She then served for a year as a pastoral intern in Santiago, Chile at Congregación El Buen Samaritano. Pastor Sara was the Director of Admission at PLTS for four years, and most recently has done interim pastoral work at several congregations throughout the Bay Area. She was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in 2019.

Pastor Sara has a deep love of scripture and enjoys wrestling with the beautiful and complex sacred texts of the Bible. She is passionate about sharing the boundary-breaking love of Christ with all people, and accompanying folks in their discernment about how God is calling them to live out the Gospel brings her great joy. Pastor Sara is grateful to be walking the road of discipleship alongside the people of Hope.

Pastor Sara lives in El Cerrito with her husband, Chris, and their son Isaiah. When she’s not at church you can find her hiking in the East Bay Regional parks, camping, cooking, or having a dance party in her living room with her family.
